Ta-Cheng Huang | Teaching

In Semester 1 of Academic Year 2026/2027, I will teach the following courses.

  1. EC4305 Applied Econometrics
EC4305 introduces modern methods for estimating causal effects in economic and social settings. The course covers randomized experiments, matching, instrumental variables, panel data, fixed effects, difference-in-differences, and regression discontinuity designs. Through lectures, assignments, and a group project, students learn to assess identifying assumptions, analyze data, evaluate empirical research, and communicate findings clearly.
  2. ECA5307 Python Programming for Economists
This course introduces Python as a practical tool for economic analysis. The course covers programming fundamentals, data structures, control flow, functions, commonly-used packages (e.g., NumPy, pandas, SciPy, Matplotlib, seaborn, and dash), and introductory econometric applications. Through hands-on exercises and a group project, students learn to analyze real-world datasets, write clear code, create effective visualizations, and communicate data-driven findings using Python for substantive economic questions.
  3. BMS5504 Marketing Data Analytics and Visualization
BMS5504 equips students to turn business data into actionable managerial insights. The course covers data preparation, cleaning, exploratory analysis, and business diagnosis using Python, alongside principles of effective visualization and interactive dashboard design in Tableau. Through hands-on exercises and a group project, students learn to connect business questions with analysis, communicate findings clearly, and develop evidence-based recommendations for decision-making and stakeholder communication effectively.

I will also serve as the coordinator for

  1. DSE4101 Capstone Project in Data Science and Economics I
DSE4101 enables students to undertake a self-directed research project in FinTech, digital currencies, or the digital economy. Working in teams, students develop research questions, review relevant literature, analyze real-world data, and apply appropriate theoretical and empirical methods. Through proposals, presentations, peer review, and a final report, students strengthen their research, problem-solving, collaboration, critical evaluation, and communication skills in economics and data science.
  2. DSE4201 Capstone Project in Data Science and Economics II
DSE4201 is designed for students who wish to complete an individual final-year thesis in data science and economics. The course must be taken concurrently with DSE4101 in the same semester. Interested students should identify a faculty advisor, develop an appropriate research topic, and submit a thesis proposal to the course coordinator () by 15 July for Semester 1 or 15 December for Semester 2.
